About: Founded by artist Philip Trachtman in 1971, the college became The Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1979. The Art Institute of Philadelphia occupies 1622 Chestnut Street, a building originally designed in 1928 as the CBS flagship radio station affiliate. Designated as a historical site by the Philadelphia Historical Commission, the Art Deco building became home to the college in 1982. About: Pennsylvania College of Art & Design began as the dream of a handful of dedicated artists and their supporters in 1982. Two decades later, PCA&D has grown into a professional art college recognized as a leader in Central Pennsylvania's visual arts community. PCA&D offers four-year Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) degree programs in fine arts, graphic design, photography and illustration. In addition, the college offers continuing education opportunities with professional programs in Web design, print design, home interiors, and mural painting. A wide variety of credit and non-credit studio and computer courses are also available for adults, teen, and youth.
